Our 2024 Shop With Our Heroes had another year of success!
With 57 of the 60 students chosen to participate and 60 of our local heroes (Fire, Police, EMS, etc) in attendance, we are pleased with the joyous turnout. Our goal with the Shop With Our Heroes program is to help create flourishing and healthy relationships between our community and local heroes. Students spend their day eating, shopping, talking, and enjoying movies with local heroes. Timaris Montano, event coordinator, ensures that the partnership with GMCS is always open and inclusive to our school community. We are continuously grateful for the opportunity to participate in the program and build rapport with our local community resources.

Big News from Gallup-McKinley County Schools!
Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, GMCS will transition to a new K-6 school model at elementary schools. Middle School sites will instruct 7th and 8th grade students.
This change will help support student success in many ways. As we focus on continued commitment to high academic achievement, we look to student-centered research which demonstrates:
✅ Continued Opportunities for social and emotional growth: Expanded opportunities to enable students time to continue developing those essential skills.
✅ Higher Academic Achievement: Students demonstrate higher understanding and performance on assessments when remaining in a familiar environment.
✅ Enhanced Safety & Wellbeing: Smaller, more connected environments boost emotional and social growth
Athletic Opportunities: 6th graders will continue to have athletic opportunities to enhance growth and development.
The goal is to give every student the best chance to succeed — academically, socially, and emotionally!
We will be hosting informational sessions in the coming months to help families get ready for this exciting transition.
Stay tuned for more details!
