Our 5th and 6th grade science teachers participated in PLTW Launch training to earn their certification! Almost every elementary was represented, and the day was filled with hands-on learning and lots of fun.

Our 5th and 6th grade science teachers were busy exploring scientific reasoning, understanding finite resources, and saving their friend from a broken arm. There were giggles, theories, and many wiggles as teams of these fantastic adults made waterproof casts for their friend with a broken arm. They used a series of randomized objects, so some had feathers while others had foil. All of them turned out to be waterproof! It was a great segment to understand the learning that happens for students as they problem solve through a design process.

Did you know that you could code without using a computer? Me neither! Our 5th and 6th grade science teachers proved it could be done as they helped Rosie fetch the dog bones and make it to the doghouse. This great activity helped our 5th and 6th grade science teachers understand how students can work through simplified structures to really understand some bigger concepts, like coding at young ages. It was very important to stay focused on directions and do things step by step. This fun game is not only beneficial to science learning and exposure, but we could see how attention to detail can help students of all backgrounds.
Way to go, teachers—your students will benefit from all you learned
