DO I HAVE TO TAKE THESE TESTS TO GRADUATE?

YES!

The state of New Mexico has legislated that all high school students must demonstrate competency in the five main subject areas of READING, WRITING, MATH, SCIENCE, and SOCIAL STUDIES in order to graduate with a diploma.  Students may demonstrate competency in these areas by achieving a passing score on an assessment listed below.

Cohort 2021 Demonstration of Competency Menu Options

Students graduating in 2021 may also use the GMCS LOCAL DEMONSTRATIONS OF COMPETENCY.  Students who complete all of their coursework, but do NOT meet their assessment requirements are issued a certificate of completion rather than a diploma.
